The release of Valence under the free Community Developer License this week ignited a firestorm of downloads that blew away all of our expectations. By Tuesday the servers running the Valence Store were not able to handle the volume of downloads so we upgraded and the download reliability improved. By Wednesday that was overloaded and we were really scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. By Friday at noon we were upgraded to a real fancy worldwide CDN (Content Delivery Network) and now we are meeting the download volume with ease and that emergency is over. The full credit for the fix goes to our friends at Chicago-based cre8media.com. They really went above and beyond the call of duty this week to quickly align the Valence Store with unexpected demand.

By the way, those of you who download don't notice these changes in the download mechanism in the Valence Store, other than the fact that it actually works reliably (and fast) now.

Dealing with this volume really put us behind delivery of our first update to Valence 2.1, which was supposed to be out by Friday (today). Everyone was so busy and exhausted here that we just couldn't get it out. The first update will in fact go up over the weekend sometime (right, we have no lives).

Lets get back to the numbers for a moment. I'm not going to write here the actual number of downloads but I will say this: The number of downloads that we've had of Valence 2.1 from around the world in the past five days has significantly exceeded the total number of downloads from the previous two years before that. To say we are shocked at this is an understatement.

Feel free to comment.

hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work! This is a tremendous release - I especially love the new autocode enhancements! You've opened up a lot of new directions and opportunities for us hard-core RPGers.
