Recently the Firefox 3 browser was released by Mozilla at www.mozilla.com. CNX has completed Firefox 3 usability testing with Valence and found that certain System i configurations will not function properly. This is because a change in the Firefox 3 character set encoding is not recognized properly by some versions of the System i Apache server. If you experience any issues while using Firefox 3 with Valence, you can apply the following workaround to the Apache server:
1) Login into the HTTP Server Administration page on your System i at http://[your_ip_address]:2001
2) Click the link for IBM Web Administration for i5/OS
3) Choose the HTTP Servers tab and the VALENCE10 Server from the drop-down list
4) Under Server Properties, click General Server Configuration
5) Choose the Advanced tab
6) Change the value for Client CCSID from blank to 1208
7) Stop and start the VALENCE10 server instance
Firefox 3 and all other browsers should now function normally.
